I am a book lover. I can say that because whenever i am moving from one place to other( by the way i travel like a nomad!), I have at least( and I am not kidding) two big TV size cartons of books with me. Although I feel I haven’t read many books. But whatever the books I have read, they have made a true difference in my life. And that’s a secret you realize only when you have read few good books.
Trust me on this one, Exam like GATE would be very comfortable for you, if you read the required books. But most of us, ignore this. We prefer some one giving us a lecture. Or someone providing their notes. And finally you end up not understanding the core concepts. I did it too. But its better you don’t do the same mistakes.
So, I am listing down few books which are very important for GATE study. But before you take them down, I have an interesting video by Penguin India on 25 reasons to read.
Now, the good books for GATE:
OS: by Abraham Silberschatz , Peter B. Galvin , Greg Gagne
Computer Organisation: Computer System Architecture by M. Morris Mano, Also one more by Carl Hamacher is Good.
Algorithms: by Thomas H. Cormen, Charles E. Leiserson, Ronald L. Rivest
Theory Of Computation: An introduction to Formal Languages & Automata by Peter Linz.
Digital Logic: Digital Logic and Design by Morris Mano
Prograaming and DS: Thinking in C++ volume 1 and volume 2, by Bruce Eckel
Compiler: Compilers: Principles, Techniques, and Tools by Alfred V. Aho, Ravi Sethi, Jeffrey D. Ullman
Computer Networks: Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach, by James F. Kurose, Keith W. Ross
I suggest do not get their E copy. Buy them. But don’t buy them all together. Take one book at a time. Give it at least a week. Only when you feel you can now go to next subject, Buy the next book.
I studied maths from online lectures and practiced mostly from my class notes. they were good enough. However, Maths also deserve a chance to be read from books. So get the standard book and practice. Hope this helps.
